How do you clean precious metal jewelry?

To take care of copper jewelry, you can:

  • Clean regularly

Use a lint-free cloth to gently wipe your jewelry before and after wearing it. Clean frequently-worn pieces at least once a month, or more if they start to look dull. (Polishing cloth included with purchase.)

  • Store properly

Keep your copper jewelry in a cool, dry place in an airtight container or plastic bag. You can also wrap each piece in a soft cloth or use anti-tarnish storage bags. (Small plastic bag included with purchase.)

  • Avoid harsh chemicals

Keep your jewelry away from harsh chemicals, abrasives, soap, lotion, and sweat. Remove it before swimming, showering, or doing rough activities.

  • Clean with a slightly acidic liquid or paste

You can use a mild abrasive and a slightly acidic liquid or paste to clean your jewelry. Some options include:

    • Vinegar: Dip a cloth in vinegar and gently rub the jewelry. You can also mix vinegar with salt for extra cleaning power.

    • Lemon juice and baking soda: Make a paste of lemon juice and baking soda to clean your jewelry.

    • Ketchup: Dip a clean cloth in ketchup and gently rub the jewelry. The tomato acid in ketchup can restore the copper's natural finish.

  • Rinse and dry thoroughly

After cleaning, make sure to rinse and dry your jewelry thoroughly. Leaving any acid, water, or abrasive on the jewelry can cause water marks and uneven splotches.

  • Buff to a shine

Use a soft cloth or kitchen towel to carefully dry your jewelry, then use a second cloth to buff it to a shine. (Small polishing cloth included with purchase.)
